a brief history

Ariel Summer Pic of Mountain Inn.jpeg

The Mountain Inn first opened it’s doors in December of 1993. Mike Larson was the man behind the Inn and was the Owner/Operator for many years. In 2007 the inn was managed by Lutsen Resort, and remained part of the resort’s lodging options for the better part of 10 years.

Recently, locals Teri Chilefone & James Coleman purchased the Inn from Mr. Larson, and are now the proud new Owners!

Teri and James are proud to call Lutsen home and are vested in the community. Teri has a diverse background including Hotel Management, but her primary focus these days is LutZen Reflections Massage Studios with two locations on the North Shore. James is a master of many trades, including tile and stone work, heavy machinery, construction and others. He is heavily involved in community service volunteering as a first responder and the Fire Chief in Lutsen. Together they make a winning team for successful business plan and hope to earn your return stays each year!

Teri & James have big dreams for the Mountain Inn; they look forward to creating lasting memories and unforgettable experiences for both returning guests and new visitors alike. You will often find them and their two dogs, Surly and Cecil, working alongside our staff at the Inn.

Such a fantastic place to stay. The exceptional hospitality combined with incredibly affordable rates makes the Mountain Inn the superior choice in lodging on the mountain.
